Yes, anyone can have dreadlocks regardless of hair type and ethnicity. However, different hair types might require different techniques to form and maintain the dreadlocks.
Yes, we crochet the dreads tightly so washing is absolutely okay! We recommend washing your dreads at a minimum of once a week, but depending on your daily activities, if you need to wash more frequently, it will require more maintenance. We do not suggest using conditioners as it will loosen the dreads. Washing once a week means using a residue free shampoo. If you just “wet” your hair without using shampoo, it can lead to build up in your dreadlocks as you are only getting your dreadlocks wet whereas the shampoo will help break up any sweat, dry skin, or other products you might have used.
Yes, they can. It is a sign that your dreadlocks have mold or mildew buildup, we recommend doing a dreadlock detox at least every 6 months.
Because we use the crochet method, it’s not common for them to shrink much. There are circumstances where shrinking can happen depending on your hair texture and how you take care of your dreads.
Yes. We recommend showering and soaking your hair with clean water before jumping into chlorinated swimming pools. Hot springs, lakes, and any natural body of water is fine. Take note that some natural bodies of water may leave a smell in your dreadlocks like hot springs, a few washes should take care of it. Sometimes salt water can result in your dreads shrinking.
Yes. We always suggest having a professional do it. Be aware that the dye can easily get stuck inside the dreadlock and may damage your hair further. We recommend adding extensions for color or wrapping your dreads with colored embroidery floss.
Yes. We have artists that can provide this service for you. We can cut them to the desired length you’re looking for. We do suggest letting a professional perform the trim so we can make any adjustments to the ends to your liking. Some clients don’t like the blunted tip look, we can go through and comb those tips out.
Yes, we recommend that you search for products that only use natural ingredients and that you use them in moderation. Keep in mind that long term use without properly rinsing thoroughly can lead to buildup that can be problematic to your dreads.
We generally don’t suggest palm rolling your dreads in the early stages as it will loosen the work from the crochet method. However, when your dreads have matured– palm rolling is a good temporary way to maintain your hair between visits to the salon.
Some people may experience headaches, especially if the dreads are too heavy or pulled tightly. It’s important to manage the weight and avoid overly tight styles.

It depends on what method was used to create your dreadlocks. We recommend scheduling for an in-person consultation so we can examine your dreadlocks to see what can be done. If they are able to be brushed out, it will require patience from you and the artist combing them out. Brushing dreadlocks out can vary in time depending on the age of the dreadlocks. It could take multiple sessions.
